This week I was kindly invited down by the Science Faculty to speak at the Science Re-orientation seminar! At the seminar, I presented my top 3 uni tips and in today’s post – I will share my ‘words of wisdom’ here!

Tip 1: Get Involved

I can almost open up a MU merchandise store…

One of the perks of going to a large uni is all the social activities and events on offer! There’s over 150 clubs and societies on campus – there’s bound to be a club that takes your fancy. Participating in these clubs are a great way to meet new friends, and the events are always great fun!

Take up any volunteering opportunities on campus! Such as, becoming an Orientation Host/Open day guide/Camp leader etc. It’s an awesome way to give back to the community! You will meet amazing people, and gain insightful experiences along the way.

Tip 2: Be organised for success

Time management is the key to survive uni! It can be difficult to juggle the demands of uni with your social life, work, and other commitments. Therefore it is important to organise and plan your time effectively to maintain this balance.

Make sure you have a diary or a planner – mark down the important dates such as assignment due dates, exam period, tests etc. And set reminders so you don’t forget about them. Setting short term and along term goals are also a great way to stay on top of things, and they help you track your progress along the way. And of course, prioritisation is another factor – should you really be going to that party when you have a mid semester test the next day?

Tip 3: Don’t be afraid to ask for help!

Whether if you need help with an assignment, need to see a doctor, or in need of financial support – there is a service on campus that can help you! It’s a common misconception when you’re transitioning into uni that there is no one campus to help you. The support is here – but YOU need to be the one who makes the first move.

So yeah, those are my top 3 tips! Take it or leave it – it’s up to you!

Hope you all enjoy your weekend after a crazy Week 5!
