So you didn't do so well…

So you’ve checked your results, and well…they’re not the best marks in the world. That’s okay, we are only human. Everyone makes mistakes and trust me – you’re not alone.

Here are some advice and wisdom that has been passed down to me from friends, family, teachers etc.

It’s not the end of the world!

There is always a way to get you to where you want to go. Don’t let something like bad marks, or fails get in the way of what you want to do.

If you didn’t get into your quota subjects – don’t stress. From what course advisors have told me, there are always options and other pathways to get around. If I were you, I would book a course advice appointment or pop in the student centre to have a chat and do something about it.

 You are not alone!

Trust me, you are definitely not alone if you’re disappointed with your results! Try not to compare yourself to other people because success is different through everyone’s eyes. You may perceive a H2B as a not-so-good mark, but other people may see a H2B as a really good mark!

Don’t be discouraged if you didn’t do the best. Turn that, into MOTIVATION for the next semester!

No one is perfect

We are only human and EVERYONE makes mistakes! Uni is all about learning from your mistakes. Accept that you’ve made a mistake, learn from them, and move on! There’s no point in dabbling over them now. You’re better off investing your energy into working towards a better semester.

You are not a failure

Just remember, it’s only a number and it doesn’t define your intelligence, nor does it dictate who you are. I’ve met plenty of people throughout school/uni who didn’t score fantastic in exams etc, yet they’re the smartest people I know!

Ask for help

Don’t forget that academic skills is there to help you! They offer a gazillion services to help you with a whole heap of things like time management, note taking skills etc.

Don’t give up, you will get there!

And hey – at least you’re not this guy

Don’t let a little setback get you down! There is always a way to get back on track.

  1. I think that’s the Breadth subject curse – all my arts subject were ‘meh’, but I did brilliantly in my Science Breadths :P

    1. Hi Johnny!

YES – The Breadth subject curse haha! It’s just annoying because I’m so much better with essays than exams and tests. I should probably just change to an arts degree haha.

p.s. Good on you for picking science breadths! I don’t know many arts students who would sacrifice their contact hours for that.

Hope you are enjoying your holidays! :)
