“An even bigger win for Melbourne Uni students who, drunk on sparkling goon and their own self importance, are looking for a way in and out of the city proper.” – Herald Sun
Aww, thank you Herald Sun! (That was sarcasm, FYI.)
There’s been lots of chatter about a new railway station in Parkville for a while now. And as always, I’ve been very skeptical about it since it’s always been all talk but no action.
When Vice-Chancellor Glyn Davis announced on Twitter that Premier Daniel Andrews has confirmed plans for a new Parkville train station – I was honestly quite surprised (and very excited!).
Now, I’m not an expert on such matters – so please take the following information with a grain of salt.
From what I’ve gathered, the new Parkville train station is part of the Melbourne Metro Rail Project which is a project that has been revived from the dead.
There will be 5 new underground stations: Arden, Parkville, CBD North, CBD South and Domain.
Old renders of what our new Parkville station could look like can be viewed here.
When will the station be ready?
According to ABC News, major constructions are expected to begin in 2018 and the Premier has estimated that the train station will be operational by 2026(!).
I guess we’ll have to keep studying at unimelb to use the station one day!
