Before I begin, I just wanted to say that it’s such an honour to be a part of Unimelb Adventures and I’m so excited to share my experiences with you all.
My name is Seluz, and I’m an international student currently doing my Masters in Applied Mathematics.
Moving to Australia from Indonesia was a big move for me, and in this blog post, I will highlight several reasons that motivated me to study at the University of Melbourne.
As an international student, I found it a bit tricky to decide which uni to pick. This is mainly because all universities across Australia have a good reputation. They all have such amazing facilities with great libraries and laboratories.
I believe that everyone has their own reasons why they select their universities, and so did I. There were many considerations I took into account, and here were some of them:
The quality of the courses
I wanted to go to a uni that offered great Mathematics courses, and that was my main concern when I was picking unis. I thought that the structure of the courses offered by the Maths and Stats Department at Melbourne Uni were amazing, and they would provide the skills and knowledge I really want to hone.
As Melbourne Uni is ranked as the number 1 University in Australia (based on the Higher Education World University Rankings 2014-2015), I really wanted to study at this prestigious institution! I mean who doesn’t want to bask in its glory?!
Besides studying at a top-notch university, the University’s location and vibrant persona also appealed to me.
I was also won by over by how Melbourne has been consecutively crowned “the most liveable city” for the past 4 years. I am in love with its hipster inner suburbs and cafe culture. There are so many cafes hidden in almost every nook and cranny of this city!
My friend’s suggestions
I can’t say I made the decision to study at Melbourne Uni on my own. I consulted a friend of mine who is also doing something pretty similar to what I’m doing. And he suggested that I consider Melbourne Uni, and after finding out more about the University…bang! Here I am!
Anyways, those were a few of the considerations I made when I was selecting which University to study at. If you are a student overseas thinking of studying in Australia, Melbourne Uni’s not too shabby.
