Besides from the assignment-madness, Week 7 was a cracker of a week on campus. So much so, we’ve put together a digest of some things that happened over the week.
Here’s our Week 7 campus roundup:
UMSU Tuesday Band and BBQ
The usual Tuesday Band and BBQ was on, thanks to UMSU Activities. Week 7 featured 5-piece band Tetrahedra, and of course – free sausages, veggie patties, and assorted beverages were on offer.
UMSU Student Forum
With news that UMSU/Union House will be relocating, UMSU held a student forum to bring everyone up to speed on what’s going on. To find out what the future holds for Union House, check out this blog post.
CSS Dodgeball Tournament
The Commerce Students’ Society threw one hell of a dodgeball tournament on South Lawn. Many balls were thrown, many balls were dodged. But it was team ‘White Girl Starter Pack’ who took home the trophy and won a reserved table for Com Ball – congratulations.
Old Quad lawn
Old Quad lawn continues to look mighty sad and naked without its luscious green lawn :'( #prayforoldquad
Arts West construction
The redevelopment of Arts West is well underway with most of the building now demolished. According to their website, the building is expected to be completed by July 2016.
Rad sex and consent week
Rad sex and consent week was back with tons of workshops focusing on all sorts of sexy things. More on that in Aisling’s post.
M-ASS Paint n Glow
Paint and Glow is an event like no other. According to one of our contributors Adriane, she regards the event as “one of the best nights of the year”.
The event is run by the Arts Students’ Society, and was held at the Hi-Fi. You start the night in your pristine white gear, and end the night covered head to toe in paint. Adriane also said that the drink deals were affordable and the music was reasonably boogielicious.
Tickets were $20, and if you’re planning to go next year – be sure to line up early because many people missed out on tickets. The line for tickets this year went 3/4 the way around South Lawn!
UMSU Welfare’s free Thursday breakfast
Being the good people they are, UMSU Welfare and their team of volunteers served up free breakfast on South Court to the masses. Bacon and egg sandwiches, pancakes, fruit and cereal were up for grabs. You can get your hands on free breakfast every Thursday during semester between 8.30-10.30am.
Exam timetable release
In other news, exam timetables were released in Week 7 (*cries). If you happen to have exams that clash, here’s what you can do about it: http://go.unimelb.edu.au/2spn.
Melbourne University Model United Nations
Over the weekend, the Melbourne Uni International Relations Society held its second annual Model United Nations (MUNs). It gave students a chance to partake in simulations of International United Nations debates.
The club will be holding future MUNs, as well as sending delegates to other regional, national and international events. Even if you aren’t a politics student, this is a great platform to develop your public speaking and negotiation skills, and make great friends. Check out the twitter feed for what transpired over the weekend!
Big thanks to Adriane, UMSU Welfare, Aisling and Reanna for contributing to this edition of our weekly campus roundup!
