I lost something on campus! Help!

We all misplace things from time to time, but what happens if you lose something on campus? Where you begin your search? Who should you talk to?

Fear not for there is a glimpse of hope to be reunited with your missing belongings (*fingers crossed*).

There are many places around campus that hang on to lost property. So, here’s are some places where you can kickstart your search.

UMSU Info Desk

This is the ‘go-to’ place to if you’ve lost something around campus. Many people regularly hand in items they’ve found at this location. You can also find lost property from exam venues here too.

The Info Desk is located on the Ground Floor of Union House, and you can always give them a ring on 8344 6966 to see if they have it.

Campus Security

For things that are lost outside business hours (i.e. before 9am, after 5pm), security have an after hours lost and found. These folks are located in the Control Room on 213 Grattan St. You can pay them a visit or give them a buzz on 8344 4674.

Bear in mind that everything that’s handed in to Security will be recorded and transferred to the UMSU Info Desk, where everything is kept for 3 months then disposed of (oh no!).

Melbourne North Police Station

If you’ve lost something valuable, like a bicycle, the police station may have it. Security tend to transfer all the valuable things to them. Their address is 36 Wreckyn Street, North Melbourne or you can call them on 03 8379 0800.

Your Student Centre

There’s no harm asking your student centre to see if they’ve picked up anything. If you’ve lost your student card, your student centre folks may have it. I don’t know about the other student centres, but I know that the Science Student Centre has a little lost and found.

Your lecturers

If you lost something in a lecture theatre, sometimes your lecturer may have picked it up on his or her way out! So it wouldn’t hurt to send a quick email asking them if they picked it up.

And also check the LMS because subject coordinators sometimes put notices out to say they’ve found things.

Libraries

If you’ve lost something in a library, have a chat to the librarians at their info desk. They may be able to help you out.

Hope this guide helps you locate your missing items, and good luck!
