The after hours food and coffee guide

Ever been stuck at uni late at night not knowing where to go to satiate your need for coffee and food? We’re here to put an end to that!

Here are 13 ways to get your late night kick.

1. Don Tojo

If you’re a fan of cheap, super quick and yummy Japanese food – this is the place for you. Don Tojo is just a 5-10 minute walk from campus. It’s on Cardigan Street and it’s near the uni health clinic.

2. The Potter Cafe

The Potter Cafe is located next to the Ian Potter Museum (or near the Physics Building). They open till 6pm on weekdays, and they also open on weekends.

3. Mantra Lounge

Located just across the road from the 1888 Building on Grattan Street, this chilled out vegan restaurant offers delicious hot meals (+ dessert) for $7.95. What’s more, it is open until 8pm, including on weekends!

4. Uni Square Cafe

For all nighters who study in Law Library or Giblin Eunson Library, this is the closest place that opens until 8pm. This cafe is located at 165 Pelham Street, or just across Law Building (or precisely, beside Momo Sushi!). Moreover, don’t be afraid if you want to eat it later because you can just take it away. This is a good news because Law Building, FBE and The Spot all provide heaps of microwaves so hot Chinese food will accompany you all night.

5. Garage Cafe

Another option for Law Library and Giblin Eunson Library fans! Don’t let the name fool you. Yes, this place literally is located inside a huge garage and it provides variety of Indonesian food. The location is really strategic: behind the Spot and Alan Gilbert Building

6. KFC

Maybe this option is not healthy as the others, but junk foods sure will stimulate your brain right? No? Well, at least at KFC you can pick up 9 pieces of chicken for $9.95 on Tuesdays. Best eaten with friends as a reward for all your hard work.

7. Domino’s Pizza

Located just down the road from Uni on Grattan St, Domino’s is open ’til late! What’s more, the junk-food behemoth allows you to order online.

8. Intersection Cafe

Located on Lygon Street, this place is open until midnight for all your late night hunger needs. Even better, it boasts glorious half priced pizzas and pastas every Thursday.

9. Middle Fish

For those studying in The Spot, Alan Gilbert, or Law. This restaurant is on Berkeley Street, on the same row as Seven Seeds.  Middle Fish serves AWESOME Thai Food, and it’s reasonably priced as well. They also serve pretty good coffee, if you’re in need of a caffeine hit during dinner to fuel more studying. Open until 10pm.

10. Various pubs around campus

If you’re after a hearty pub meal, there are plenty of pubs around campus (as you already know). Hit up Queensberry Hotel, Prince Alfred Hotel, or Corkmans.

11. 7-eleven

Nothing glamorous, but good for $1 coffees and $2 sandwiches, plus any other emergency snacks you might need. Not to mention it’s open 24 hours. The closest locations to uni are on Royal Parade (across the road from Trinity College) and Swanston Street (near KFC).

12. Thresherman’s Bakehouse

Located a short walk away from the main campus and the Swanston Street tram stop, this bakery offers an abundance of baked goods and warm meals at reasonable prices. Even better, it is open late – until 10:30pm – every day of the week.

13. Classic Curry

If you’re craving for curry at a decent price, try Classic Curry. It’s located on the intersection of Queensberry and Elizabeth St (walking distance from Law, FBE or Baillieu library), and is open till 10pm. You can phone your order, or book online.
